National Cup – Watergrasshill U12 V Ballincollig

We travelled to Ballincollig playing in the 3rd round of the national cup.(Ballincollig premiership v Watergrasshill division 3) The game started with Ballincollig holding the ball very well in the Watergrasshill half of the pitch and putting us under consistent pressure. Our back four of Timmy Hegarty, Padraig O Leary, Colin Cronin and Jake O Brien dealt with the pressure excellently but after 20 mins gone Ballincollig scored and the first half finished 1 nil in Ballincollig’s favour. Second half started with Ballincollig increasing the pressure but Watergrasshill remained calm and dealt with it. Ten minutes into the second half after a scrappy shot on goal by Ballincollig the ball somehow found its way into the net. Ballincollig 2 Watergrasshill 0. Shortly afterwards Ballincollig were awarded a penalty and went 3 nil up. Our lads never gave up and with some beautiful defending and a man of the match performance by Timmy Hegarty he worked the ball up the wing to Mark O Riordan and we won a corner. Owen Desmond took the corner and swept the ball into Ballincollig’s six yard box some fumbling of the ball by Ballincolligs defenders Colin Cronin struck the ball to make it Ballincollig 3 WGH 1. The game ended 3-1 and Ballincollig progressed to the next round. Great result for Watergrasshill since we lost to the same side in a pre reason friendly 8-1. Well done to all of the Watergrasshill team which consisted of Padraig O Brien, Timmy Hegarty, Colin Cronin, Padraig O Leary, Jake O Brien, Sean Desmond, Owen Desmond, Tom Murray, Ceadan Hogan Niall Sullivan and Mark O Riordan. Thank you to all the parents that also travelled.
