Sat Nov 12th – Macroom (3) v (2) WGH

On Saturday Nov. 12th we travelled to Macroom for our fourth league game of the season. We started off very well with our midfield pairing of Owen Desmond and Colin Croinin controlling midfield and distributing the ball very well. With our two corner backs, Timmy Heargty and Seamus Ahern playing extremly well and positvely it was only a matter of time before we got on the score sheet.
Our first goal came in the 15 minute with Owen Desmond picking up the ball from midfield and playing a through ball to Niall O Sullivan to run onto. Niall picked up the ball on the edge of the box to slot it past the oncoming keeper to put WGH 0-1 up. WGH were now crusing and playing some lovely soccer. With 25 mins gone Colin Cronin played the ball to Mark O Riordan on the right ring who put the ball into the box for Sean Desmond to get WGH second of the day. Half time finished Macroom 0- 2 WGH.
With the start of the second half Macroom came out to make a game of this and within 10mins were rewarded with goal. Macroom 1-2 WGH. WGH were really struggling to settle and cope with the tempo Macroom were now setting. With the our back line under continuous and sustained pressure we gave away a very very silly penalty. Macroom slotted the penalty home to make it Macroom 2 - 2 WGH with 15mins gone. Macroom now had the momentum and continued to attack in numbers. With a ball played into our box that we tried to clear but it rebounded off one of our own players and ended up in the back of our net. Macroom 3-2 WGH with 25 mins gone. Macroom now closed up shop and WGH were unable retrive anything from this game.
By the end of the first half WGH looked comfortable but soccer is a game of two halves and we failed to turn up for the second half.In fairness to Macroom they deserved their win, they showed more passion and desire then we did in the second half. However we will learn from this and move forward.
Well done to all players from 1-13 with a special mention for Timmy Hegarty and Seamus Ahern who played very well in the back line but man of the match performance goes to Colin Cronin who never ever gave up.
Thanks to all the parents who travelled to support us.
