Nov 26 – Watergrasshill United U12 (3) V (3) Glounthaune

Watergrasshill U12 V Glounthane - 26/11/2011 - 3-3

On Saturday November 26th we hosted Glounthaune in a league game. While the morning was dry there was a very strong wind blowing from end to end. We won the toss and played with the wind. We started off very positive, playing some lovely soccer. Within five minutes Owen Desmond played a lovely ball out to Ceadan Hogan on the right wing who put the ball into the box for Sean Desmond to bury in the back of Glounthune's net. WGH 1- 0 Glounthaune. WGH were playing lovely soccer with some fantastic interplay. With twenty minutes gone Timmy Hegarty laid a pass onto Colin Cronin in midfield who in turn put a through ball in for Sean Desmond to run onto. Sean was pushed out towards the corner flag by Glounthaune's defenders but after turning Glounthaune's left back and from an impossible angle Sean took a shot at goal to bury the ball in Glounthaune's net. A fantastic individual goal by any standards and Sean's second of the day. It finished half time WGH 2-0 Glounthaune. As we were in this position before leading at half time only to loose the game at full time they went out in the second half and matched Glounthaune pass for pass, tackle for tackle. We were rewarded for our determination in the tenth minute when Owen Desmond broke from midfield, after rounding two Glounthaune players and only the centre back to beat he was dragged down outside Glounthaunes' box. WGH were awarded a direct free kick, Owen stepped up to take it and with a six man wall in front of him, he put the ball over the wall and dropped it underneath the crossbar. A fantastic goal from an eleven year old player that the David Beckhems and Cristiano Ronaldos of this world would have been proud off. WGH 3 - 0 Glounthaune. With 20 minutes left and 3 goals up WGH should have been home and dry however Glounthaune went all out attack with their 10 outfield players sitting in our half. WGH conceded 3 goals in the next 20 minutes. It finished WGH 3- 3 Glounthaune. In previous matches when WGH were leading at half time they finish with nothing, however on this occasion we gained a valuable point, we will have to learn how to close off the game when we are leading, especially with only 20 minutes left on the clock and 3 - 0 up. That aside this team is gaining experience and confidence with every game and with a bit more self belief this team will eventually start getting the full 3 points from these type of games. Well done to Glounthaune for coming back from three nil down, they showed great character and determination and proves it's never over till the final whistle. A big thank you to all the parents that came up to support us, and well done to all the lads from number's 1-14 with a special mention for our captain Colin Cronin who was awarded man of the match for the second week in a row for his sheer determination and never give up attitude.
