Jan 8th – Carrigtwohill Utd (1) v (0) Watergrasshill Utd

Under 12:

On January 7th we travelled to Carrigtwohill for our first league game of the new year. Due to illness and players been on holidays we were only able to field ten players. In the first half we competed very well attacking with every opportunity and defending when we had to. At half time it finished 0-0. In fairness to our team you would not have known we were only playing with 10 players. With the start of the second half and our midfield pairing of Colin Cronin and Sean Desmond competing for every ball and setting the tempo of the game we started to take control. With some great balls coming in from the wingers of Mark O Riordan and Cadan Hogan we were unfortunate not to capitalize on some of these opportunities. With 15 minutes into the second half we got caught on the break and Carrigtwohill went 1-0 up. With this setback we still continued with a positive frame of mind and the lads never dropped their heads which is an absolute credit to them. We continued to attack and were rewarded with a penalty. Our captain Colin Cronin stepped up to take the penalty. However the Carrigtwohill goal keeper pulled off a great save to deny us a much deserved goal. It finished Carrigtwohill 1-0 Watergrasshill. Credit to the lads from our goal keeper Padraig O Brien, our full back line of Timmy Hegarty, Darragh Manning, Tom Murray, Seamus Ahern our midfield of Mark O Roirdan, Colin Cronin, Sean Desmond, Ceadan Hogan and our centre forward Jake O Brien. The lads never gave up, showed true passion, desire and 100% commitment which is no more than any manager could ask for. This was truly a team performance and with a bit of luck we should have come away with something from this game, which would have been no more than what we would have deserved. Well done again to all the players and thanks to all the parents who travelled for their support.
