Jan 20th – U13 – WGH (1) (0) Castleview
On Saturday January 14th we hosted Castleview. Due to weather and pitch conditions this was our first leaghue game since Oct 8. When we last played Castleview in the corresponding fixture in the league they beat us 2-1 so it was important that we got a result from this game in order to keep us in contention for the league.
The game started off at a slow pace with both teams finding it difficult to settle. As the game progressed we started to find our feet and string some passes together. At half time it finished scoreless.
Our lack of match practice was evident in the first half however in the start of the second half the lads stepped up the tempo and started to put the Castleview back line under some presssure. With us now taking control of the game and some scoring opportunities missed, it was not till the 20th minute that we managed to break the deadlock. With the ball played from Adam O Sullivan to Andrew Desmond who raced down the right wing and clipped the ball over the oncoming keeper to store a lovely goal.
It finished Wgh 1-0 Castleview.
In fairness it was never going to be a high scoring game for either side and WGH had to work very hard against a very organised side.
Well done to all the lads from 1-14 for a hard fought victory and thanks to all the parents for their support.
