Feb 19th – Under 11’s Away v Youghal

U11’s Youghal United v Watergrasshill Utd

Saturday February 18th 2011

The U11’s long unbeaten run in their league finally came to an end in an exciting and hard fought game in Youghal at the weekend

In a match that was played on an unfamiliar artificial surface WGH equipped themselves very well. Playing the first of three 20 minute intervals with the sun in their eyes and against a strong wind, the boys did extremely well and had most of the goal chances. The team’s efforts were finally rewarded with a low hard drive by Sean Desmond on the back of a good pass through from the back by Ceadan Hogan. The second interval started well for us with a second goal coming from James O’Leary, a lovely diagonal shot into the corner of the net following good link play with Sean Desmond at midfield for WGH to go 2 nil up. . In fairness to Youghal they did not give up and were somewhat fortunate to get two goals back to leave it at 2 :2 going into the last interval. Even though we were by far the better team when attacking, the glare of the sun and high bounce of the ball caused problems for us at the back and we unfortunately found ourselves 5:2 down with 10 minutes to go. To our lads great credit, none of them dropped their heads and we were rewarded with two more goals through Sean Desmond in wave after wave of shots on the Youghal goal. Their goalkeeper was outstanding on the day and prevented many otherwise certain goals. In the end we ran out of time to get an equalizer that the team deserved .The home support gave generous applause to WGH at the end of the match to acknowledge that they were unlucky to lose on the day.

Result : Youghal United 5 : WGH United 4
