Strand United v Watergrasshill United U11 Sunday February 25th 2012

WGH U11's delivered another spirited performance in the resumption of their league campaign away to Strand United at the weekend. This exciting game was very finely balanced throughout with Watergrasshill having most of the goal chances overall. The game was played over three 15 minute intervals due to the heavy pitch conditions and also as a generous gesture from Strand United given our relatively low squad numbers on the day.

The Watergrasshill defense was certainly under pressure at times but held up very well and we were unlucky not to catch Strand on the break on several occasions during the first two intervals. The match was still scoreless coming into the final third but then Watergrasshill conceded an unfortunate goal from a corner kick with just 10 minutes left to go 1: 0 down . To our lads great credit they did not give up and they started to attack consistently in search of an equaliser .The team was rewarded with just three minutes left on the clock when build up play from Ceadan Hogan created the opportunity Daire O Leary needed to finish from close range.

The team played very well as a unit and there were excellent performances from Ceadan Hogan and Ethan Nixon in defense, Tim Hegarty at midfield and a man of the match performance from our goal scorer Daire O Leary.
