Feb 27th – Under 13 League Kilreen (0) – (1) Watergrasshill United
On Saturday 25th Feb the under 13's travelled to Kilreen. With Kilreen sitting in second place in the league it was important that we got a result from this match in order to keep us still in contention for the league. At the start of the match the game was very open with both teams fighting hard to get the upper hand. With Kilreen playing a very high defensive line our midfield pairing of Adam O Sullivan and Colin Cronin took full advantage of this, playing some lovely balls over the top for our centre forward pairing of Owen Desmond and James Gowen who were very unfortunate not to capitalize on some excellent chances. It was not till the 20th minute that we finally got a much deserved goal from our left winger Dan Dennehy. It finished half time Kilreen 0-1 WGH. We started the second half just like we finished the first half, attacking at every opportunity and more importantly attacking in numbers. As in the first half we missed many golden chances with several of our players been one on one with the Kilreen keeper, who in fairness kept Kilreen in the game. Apart from a few hairy moments towards the end of the game our keeper and back four held out to keep a clean sheet which is just as important as scoring the goals. It finished Kilreen 0-1 WGH We knew from the start that this was going to be a very tough game which it proved to be and it's games like these that build character in a team. Well done to all the lads on a great result and thanks to all the parents who travelled to support us.
