Mar 10th – Match Report WGH U11’s
Watergrasshill U11’s v Glounthaune United Saturday March 10th 2012
A strong overall team performance captained by Shane O Reilly saw the WGH U11’s return to winning ways in style against a very competitive Glounthaune side.
This keenly contested game was very evenly matched until midway through the first half, Sean Graham got a stylish touch on to a cross from Sean Desmond to put Watergrasshill up 1 :0. There were plenty of chances at both ends through the remainder of the first half and Colm Curtin made a number of vital saves for the home side to keep our advantage at the half way mark. Our defence was put under a lot of pressure after the break but they held firm, with especially solid defending by Ethan Nixon Ten minutes into the second half James O Leary showed great composure near the penalty area and struck a powerful shot into the roof of the net for WGH to go 2: 0 up . The home side were in control for the remainder of the game, but they did not take their lead for granted and Colm Curtin was called on again to make some important saves at various times. Sean Desmond was rewarded for all his hard work at midfield with two goals in the final ten minutes following good link up play with Eoin Griffin and Tim Hegarty.
Man of the match goes to Colm Curtin in goals for a commanding and confident performance.
