Mar 25th – Under 11 Match Report
Watergrasshill U11’s v Leeds Saturday March 24th 2012
The U11’s enjoyed a narrow and hard fought victory over an accomplished Leeds side at their home ground in Ballyvolane on Saturday morning. Playing conditions were excellent and Watergrasshill got off to a flying start when very intelligent forward play by Eoin Griffin after only three minutes, set up James O’Leary nicely to tuck the ball away to the top right of the Leeds goalie. Watergrasshill extended their lead after 10 minutes when James O’Leary caught the Leeds goalie off his line and scored direct into the top left corner from a free kick. Leeds immediately responded with a fast breakaway goal from that kick off to leave the score at 2 ; 1 to us midway through the first half. Leeds scored again from a corner kick with three minutes to go to half time and the sides were level at 2:2 at the interval. Watergrasshill continued to play with confidence and composure in the second half and the defence led by Ceadan Hogan at centre back were able to deal effectively with the pressure being applied by Leeds. Harry Buskcievich was showing great energy all around the pitch and was involved in much of our attacking play throughout the match. Tim Hegarty playing on the right wing placed a great pass through to Sean Desmond who went on a great run up the right wing and finished superbly at the near post for Watergrasshill to go 3 : 2 up . James O Leary playing on the left wing set up Tim Hegarty to score our fourth goal on the day leaving us with a two goal cushion half way through the second half. Leeds fought back hard and scored a great score from distance with 10 minutes to go. From there to the finish Watergrasshill put in a great team performance to defend their narrow lead solidly and Colm Curtin in goals made a number of brave saves late on to keep us ahead . Once again an outstanding team performance against a very good city side.
