Watergrasshill U8 (5) – Ardmore (3) on Sunday April 29th
Galeforce winds made for difficult conditions today at Skehanagh Park when our Under 8 team hosted Ardmore Co. Waterford. Watergrasshill came off to a good start with a fantastic goal from Eoghan in the top right corner. The equalizer came within a few minutes straight trough the middle of the defense. With some great passing Ardmore came in front and proved they were a great side. Dylan put Watergrasshill back in the match curling the ball in the top left corner. What a goal!
In the second period, with the wind howling at eighty kilometers an hour, the teams passing stalled and both goals came from set pieces. Ardmore went in front through a corner kick and in the last second of the period Brendan made an important equalizer again through a corner. Score at the end of the 2nd period 3-3.
Ryan Murray arrived from his taekwondo tournament in the third period and deserved the Man of the Match title for his outstanding saves. What a goalkeeper! Ryan stopped Ardmore from scoring with 2 crucial saves within a few minutes. This woke up the lads, and we took control of the match for the final 10 minutes. Under Joseph’s lead we started pressing and Dylan had another great goal from an almost impossible angle. Eoghan put the final goal on the scoreboard with another fantastic shot from the right, helped by the galeforce wind, he curved the ball in the net. 5-3 final score. A hard earned win by our under 8 team. A great team achievement despite some Didier Drogba imitations and some diva like behavior. A great win lads, congratulations.
A big thanks goes out to the Ardmore team, which made the journey from Waterford and to the Watergrasshill Ladies, providing the parents and spectators with hot tea.
