May 20th – Carrigaline U8 (3) vs Watergrasshill U8 (7)

On Sunday the 20th of May, our under 8 team traveled to Calligaline to play Carrigaline Albion on their state of the art soccer grounds. With 2 players delayed, our team had to call on Alex, Daniels four year old brother, for the first 10 minutes. The game was a few minutes under way when Carrigaline tricked our defense and put the ball in Eoins net. Daniel equalized a few minutes later with a great lob over the keeper. Josef arrived from the match in Coachford and made it 2-1 with his first touch of the ball. Carrigaline equalized within seconds through a defensive slip-up. A well thought out shot from Eoghan from the tipp-off made it 2-3 at the end of the first period. During the second period we kept the team unchanged and we got off to a great start when Eoghan lobbed the ball over the keeper. A well taken corner from Dylan setup Brendan for the 2-5. Dylan kept giving great forward passes and delivered a great cross in the box, nicely tipped in by Eoghan with his left foot 2-6. Dylan was unfortunate that his fantastic goal wasn't given as the ball left his boot just when the referee blew the whistle to end the second period.

For the 3rd period we made some changes in the team. Daniel replaced Eoin in Goal, Eoin, Eoghan and Dylan were positioned in defense, Darragh, Brendan and Ryan in midfield and Josef stayed full forward. Ryan's pressing up front resulted in the 2-7 delivered from his left foot. Carrigaline started to play some great pressing football but some unlucky near misses and great goalkeeping from Daniel kept us in the game. Carrigaline kept pushing  forward but thanks to some solid defending from Dylan we were able to play some great counter attacking. A perfect pass from Dylan again reached Ryan, who unfortenately hit the post. A last minute goal from Carrigaline put the final score on the score board. Final score Carrigaline U8 (3) vs Watergrasshill U8 (7). Great team work lads, another well deserved win.

Thanks to all the parents and other supporters who travelled and to Carrigaline Albion for hosting the match.

Training again next Tuesday from 6-7pm. Last league match next week away against Ardmore.
