Oct 24th – NC U12 Midleton A (3) v (5) Watergrasshill United

Midleton A v Watergrasshill Utd

The U12s squad progressed to the Third round of the National Cup with a well deserved victory over Midleton A. on their home pitch.

Captained by Sean Desmond, WGH started strongest and went ahead with a well taken goal by Harry Buscievich after 10 minutes who deftly volleyed in from a corner kick. We quickly went 2 nil up when James O Leary played an excellent shot to chip the Midleton goalie. We started to dominate the game now at midfield with Cathal Feehan and Tim Hegarty attacking confidently at every opportunity. Cathal Fitzgerald came on as a substitute for the injured Eoin Griffin at the twenty minute mark and scored shortly afterwards with good link up play with Sean Desmond.
At 0:3 up, WGH were in total control but then a defensive error where we did not chase up a passback from Midleton to our goalie brought them back into the game at 3:1. We continued to press on and a great long ball from Ceadan Hogan in central defence was latched onto by the ever industrious Sean Desmond who calmly slotted home our fourth goal to go in 1:4 up at halftime.

The second half was all about concentration and discipline for WGH and Midleton made all their substitutions in an effort to come back at us. We held firm at the back for most of the second half and conceded a second goal after 10 minutes to leave the game still in the mix at 2:4. WGH continued to play with confidence and Sean Desmond scored his second and WGH’s fifth goal with a few minutes remaining. Midleton kept at it and got a third goal right at the end to make it a two goal victory for Watergrasshill United.

Again, the whole squad performed very well with a big team effort in the second half getting us through. Gary Doyle and Colin O Toole make fine contributions when they came on and man of the match goes to Harry Buscievich for his skillfull passing and overall influence on the game.

Our reward is to progress to a third round match at home versus the free scoring Kilnadrish Coachford in the next few weeks.
