Nov 7th – U16 Match Reports

National Cup Third Round: St Mary’s 1 Watergrasshill United 3
U16 League: Corinthians Boys 2 Watergrasshill Utd 4
U16 League: Watergrasshill Utd 0 Douglas Hall 0

Playing competitively every week is a different experience for both management and players of the WGH Utd U16 team but as can be seen from the results shown above the team is doing reasonably well. In the third round of the National Cup, a tough no frills match v St Mary’s we dug out a win despite not playing to our full potential with goals from Dilan O Donovan, Dylan McCarthy and Adam Murphy. A special mention must go to Ronan O Keeffe who deputised most capably in goal on the day. The next match played against Corinthians Boys first team on an immaculate pitch was a high quality attack orientated game which thankfully we won with goals from Dilan, Ronan O Keeffe and Josh Cooke. Our most recent game was a scoreless draw versus Douglas Hall which considering we were down to 10 men for virtually all of the game was also a good result and performance. As of now we are 4th of 10 teams in div 1 and into the Cork area final of the National Cup. Considering how small our squad is and the high division we compete in this is a remarkable achievement from the team. Again it is important for all to have realistic expectations as a lot of work goes into the team while we are also dealing with injuries and fallout from other codes. Finally we would like to wish our captain PJ Dennehy well as he recovers from injury.

Panel: Adam Murphy, Chris Prendergast, Denis Hegarthy, Dylan Ring, Dilan O Donovan, PJ Dennehy(Capt), Conor O Brien,, Dylan McCarthy, Eoin Hammond, Brian O’Callaghan, Kyle Cronin, Ronan O Keeffe, Eric Columb, Thomas Dinan
