Dec 4th – Watergrasshill U9 (3) – Carrigaline U9 (3)

On a cold and windy Sunday afternoon the Watergrasshill Under 9 team coached by Frank Cronin invited the Carrigaline Under 9 team for a friendly at Skehanagh Park. After 2 previous cancellations, the weather finally was good enough to let the match go ahead. The pitch however was in an awful state and had not recovered from the ladder exercises of some of the more senior teams. A great laugh was had by all when the Carrigaline lads, spoiled by immaculate astro turf pitches, set foot on the muddy pitch. Priceless were the reactions on their faces while their boots where swallowed by the mud. The spirit however was great and the lads all looked forward to their last outdoor match of the year.

We started the match with some great passing play , previously only seen in the Futsal games. These games have been great for the team spirit and forced the lads in passing the ball. This paid of within minutes when Eoghan passed the ball to Ryan, who netted the 1-0. It took until the end of the first period for Carrigaline to equalize. Eoghan scored the 2-1 early in the second period again from some great team play. Joseph hit the crossbar and Darragh made it 3-1 in the final period. Some sloppy defending and mid field not pulling back left us very  vulnerable in the back and within 2 minutes Carrigaline equalized and put the final 3-3 score on the match sheet.

All in all an exiting match between 2 well matched  teams.

Special thanks to referee Frank, Des and the Carrigaline team and of course all parents and other Watergrasshill supporters for their continued support during the year.
