Jan 5th – WGH U13 (5) V (3) Corinthian Boy’s

On Saturday January 5th, on an overcast morning we welcomed Corinthian Boy's to Skehanagh park for our first league game of the new year.

We started this game very positively and from the outset we dominated the first half. Owen Desmond got our first of the day with 12 minutes gone from a free kick. A great goal by any standards and no more than what we deserved. WGH 1 - 0 Corinthian Boy's. We continued attacking the Corinthians goal at will and scored our second of the day on the 23rd minute, from our left winger Padraig O Brien. WGH 2-0 Corinthian Boy's. The first half finished WGH 2-0 Corinthian Boy's, however while two goals was a great lead to end the first half with, if we were more clinical in front of Corinthians' goal and for the domination we had, it should have been a lot more.

We started the second half knowing that we had to be the first to score to end this game as a contest, however seven minute's into the second half Corinthian's scored. WGH 2-1 Corinthian Boy's. Corinthian's were back in the game and were now pushing us hard and making a match of it.It was now vital that we scored the next goal and on the 45th minute Padraig O Brien scored a great individual goal for his second of the day. WGH 3-1Corinthian Boy's. Three minutes later Caden Hogan scored another great individual goal for our fourth of the day. WGH 4-1 Corinthian Boy's. On the 50th minute Corinthian's score a soft goal against us to make it WGH 4 -2 Corinthian Boy's. A couple of minutes later Christy Graham hit a speculative shot from mid-field and saw it roll into the back of Corinthians' goal. WGH 5-2 Corinthian Boy's. Corinthian's went on to score another goal before the game was over. It finished WGH 5-3 Corinthian Boy's.

Well done to Corinthian Boy's for showing great spirit when a lesser team would have 'thrown in the towel', and well done to all the WGH players with another three points it puts us in a very strong position in the league table. However we have to learn to be more clinical in front of goal and not allow the other team back into game.
A big thanks to all the parents who came out to support us.
