Sat Mar 9th – Watergrasshill U9 take on Fermoy U9 at Skehanagh Park
On a cold and misty day, the U9’s took on Fermoy U9 in a return fixture. We played on the main pitch, full width and penalty box to penalty box which is roughly the approx size for U11’s games and to a credit the lads seem to go from strength to strength as the game went on.
We started off a bit disjointed, similar to last week and I have finally concluded that the lads don’t like the cold weather as it took us the first period to finally sort ourselves out. The period finished WGH 0 Fermoy 0.
We were a bit like our old selves in the next two periods and the goals started to come with some great play from the lads. We finally ran out 6 – 1 which was a bit unjust on Fermoy as at times they were the better team and played some great team football particularly in the first period.
I would like to thank Alan from Fermoy for both games and wish them well in the SSG (CSL Small Sided Games).
Today’s Scorers: Dylan R, Eoghan, Joseph, Dylan F, Ryan M
Final Score: Watergrasshill U9 (6) - Fermoy U9 (1)
At times our policy of rotating players does not work and as coaches we are fully aware of this but in order to ensure everyone gets the chance to play where they want we will continue with this. We are asking the lads to play their best where they are playing during any particular period and I must say some players are excelling in positions I would have not thought they would which is very pleasing and makes the whole process worthwhile. We are taking note of positions played on every match and over the whole season will ensure that a balance of playing time in positions is achieved as well as people starting when the SSG come along.
Some great passing during the game ..
Dylan stood his man in midfield
Rory takes off
We ended the match with a penalty shootout with some fantastic saves from Ryan.
