Watergrasshill United U9 (2) vs. College Corinthians U9 (1)
On Saturday April 20th our U9 team welcomed College Corinthians to Skehanagh park for our second match in the CSL SSG League.
It was our first home game of the season and while it was windy, the conditions were good for a great game. With agreement of Corinthians we played 9 aside and because of the wind we played 4 x 10 mins, giving each team the same time with the wind in the back.
We played in a 3-3-2 formation and soon found ourselves a goal down due to a fantastic individual action of one of the Corinthians players. To their credit the lads completely controlled the second period and had some fantastic chances. First Eoghans header was stopped by the keeper, Rory hit the crossbar and Brendan had a near miss in the rebound. Dylan was unlucky that his volley out of Eoghans corner just went 2 inches wide, and second volley from Dylan went inches over the crossbar.
Going against the wind in the 3rd period didn’t stop the lads and Eoghan almost made the equalizer but his shot hit the side net. We applied some more pressure and we equalized through a corner that eventually fell to Daniel. 1-1. With the wind in the back in the final period Corinthians almost surprised us while all our players where on the wrong half of the pitch (!). A fantastic sprint from Brendan prevented Corinthians forward from scoring. In the last five minutes of the match Dylan scored the winning goal from a great pass from Ryan. Final score. Watergrasshill United U9 (2) - College Corinthians U9 (1).
We rotated our players again today following a pre-defined game play. It is important to stick to the position the managers have assigned to the players and to return back to their defending or midfield position when we loose possession of the ball. We will highlight this during the upcoming training sessions. Remember that training is now on Tuesday Evening @ 18:00. We might play the postponed match against Buttevant this Thursday. Frank will send out an SMS with time and Location if this materializes. Next Saturday we will play Carrigaline at home. Time to be confirmed.
Todays Team: Daniel, Eoghan, Ryan, Dylan R, Brendan, Joseph, Sam, Rory, Darragh
Thanks to Corinthians for making the trip to Skehanagh Park and thanks to all parents and supporters for their continued support.
Special thanks to Kieran from Corinthians and Referee Frank.
