CSL SSG Watergrasshill U9 (4) vs Carrigaline (1)

On a glorious sunny afternoon with a small wind factor our U9’s took on Carrigaline for the 3rd time this season. In previous meetings we had never won but never lost either. We had a squad of 10 and played 9 aside with one player rotating every five minutes to ensure all players played 40 minutes.

The 1st period kicked off and the lads came roaring out of the box and took a 2-0 lead with two excellent strikes from Eoghan. To their credit Carrigaline came fighting back and pulled a goal back to make it 2-1. Some great play from the lads and excellent defending from Darragh, we soon restored our 2 goal lead with a goal from Rory to leave the score 3-1 to WGH at the end of the first period.

In the 2nd period we took more control of the match and extended our lead with a volley from Dylan. Highlight of the match also came in this period when Dylan took on and beat 5 Carrigaline players. The weather started to play its part and the remainder of the period was an even affair.

With the 3rd period and my head confused with who had played where (Sorry Sam but you will play up front next game), we kicked off and were on top for the balance of the period but no more goals came our way. The final score WGH 4 Carrigaline 1.

I must mention the lads who play their part by playing in goal giving up a period of outfield play, Dylan F, Ryan & Joseph today and on previous occasions Brendan, Eoin, Andrew & Daniel. Fair play to ye lads.

Today’s Team: Eoghan, Ryan, Dylan R, Brendan, Joseph, Sam, Rory, Darragh, Dylan F, Eoin.

Due to the lads communions, There will be no game next Saturday.

Thanks to Carrigaline for making the trip to Skehanagh Park and thanks to all parents and supporters for their continued support.

Special thanks to Des from Carrigaline and Referee Rob, who had to endure some questions and banter from the sidelines.
