U14’s Grab A Late Point to Move Up The Table

On Thursday May 2nd, WGH Utd's U14's faced Park Utd at Skehanagh Park. This encounter renewed a great friendly rivalry that dates back to our days in U11 Division 4.

Like most of these games, it was a very even game with both sides cancelling each other out a times. Time on the ball was limited for both teams and as a result, the game saw quite a few balls played in over the top and a few long passes. This resulted in a few decent chances for both teams but they were not converted.

It was Park Utd who opened the scoring, poking home after a scramble in our penalty box. The Hill had two more half decent chances leading into the last 5 minutes but it took a fantastic free kick flying into the top corner to level things up.

With minutes left, The Hill pushed for a winner but were pegged back by Park, who had a series of corners and a free kick, as they searched for a winner themselves. The lads managed to clear the three set pieces and the game finished 1-1.

A draw was probably a fair result here as both teams deserved something from the game. In the end it is another point in the bag which almost assures us our place in Division 2 next year.

Thanks to all 19 squad members who turned up tonight and to the parents and coaches on the line.

Next outing is at home to Castleview Saturday May 4th, Kick Off 10.30am

Note: Due to the fantastic numbers in our squad, we will be rotating team selection over the next few weeks in the hopes that everybody gets game time. We will hopefully arrange some internal/external friendlies for this purpose also. We  would just like to thank the parents and players for their co-operation and understanding of this scenario.
