Midleton U9 (2) vs. Watergrasshill U9 (5)

On very windy Saturday evening our Under 9 team played Midleton on their Knockgriffin Park grounds. Just like last week we played 8 aside (but with a rolling sub this time). The Midleton pitch was in a perfect condition and before the lads knew it we were 2-0 down within the first 5 minutes due to some great pressing play from Midleton. According to our goalie Ryan, the second goal shouldn't have counted as it fell from a 'direct' corner. The ball was even blamed for some of the bad passes, but coach Frank was able to get the lads motivated again to fight for it. Playing against a very strong wind, the lads didn't give up and an unlucky hand ball from a Midleton defender provided Dylan R. with a chance to score from a spot kick. Dylan buried de ball very convincingly in the back of the net, and the lads were back in the game just minutes before the end of the first period.

The second period was a different story. With the wind in the back and Joseph up front we were able to put the Midleton defenders under constant pressure. Our corners from the left by Dylan and from the right from Eoghan have been a good weapon this season and Joseph scored the equalizer from a perfect Eoghan corner kick. Midleton 2 - Watergrasshill 2. Game on!. To their credit the lads completely controlled the second period and had some fantastic chances. Due to some fantastic keeping of the Midleton goalie and with the help of the post and the crossbar it took until the end of the second period till the lads determination paid of with a well deserved goal from Joseph. Midleton 2 - Watergrasshill 3.

In the Final period our goalie Ryan played up front and Eoin took his place between the goal posts. 4 great saves from Eoin kept us in the game, but we scored from a quick break, an Eoghan cross, a Ryan flick, followed by a great finish from Dylan R. Joseph had another fantastic chance but his header was saved by a great reflex of the goalie. Josephs got slightly injured during this last attempt and Frank had to use his first aid training for the first (and hopefully last) time. Joe didn't need much recovery time and was able to continue match in which Dylan R. was on a roll. Dylan completed his hat-trick with a header from another well delivered corner kick from Eoghan. Final score Midleton U9 (2) - Watergrasshill United U9 (5)

Another great team performance from our lads in a game in which we saw great passing, some great soloing, dedication and the lads showed the determination to turn around the match from trailing 2 goals after 5 minuted by scoring 5 goals in a row.

Today’s Team: Eoghan, Ryan, Dylan R, Eoin, Joseph, Sam, Rory, Darragh, Brendan.

Next match at home this Thursday against Greenwood. Please be at the pitch at 6:40pm. No training on Tuesday due to the match on Thursday.

Thanks to Midleton for hosting us at their Knockgriffin Park grounds and thanks to all parents and supporters for their continued support.

Pictured below are Eoin, who had some fantastic saves today in the last period, and in the background Rory, who had anothed solid performance today.
