U9’s vs Greenwood
Our U9’s suffered a hard defeat to Greenwood at home tonight. What we can take from this defeat will make the lads stronger going forward as this was a match where the lads didn’t deserve to lose. We started off in a 3 -3 -3 formation on the top pitch and it wasn’t long before we took the lead with an excellent 1 / 2 between Sam and Brendan that led to a goal from Joseph. We controlled the rest of the period and maintained our lead at the end of the period.
Due to a Junior game taking place on the main pitch, for safety reasons the game was moved to the bottom pitch. We maintained 10 a side and this is where we encountered problems along with Greenwood coming out of the blocks in the second period with all guns blazing. It didn’t long for Greenwood to come back to level terms and then forge ahead. The lads have blossomed recently with space available and tonight they found it very hard to replicate their recent form due to numbers and size of pitch. They kept fighting and some excellent saves from Greenwoods keeper kept the score 2-1. Greenwood finished off the period as they had started with another goal to make the score at the end of the period - Watergrasshill Utd 1 Greenwood 3.
After talking to the lads and moving players around we came out in the final period with fire. Quick succession of corners kept the pressure on Greenwood but we couldn’t find the final touch. Sam pulled a goal back from a cross from Dylan and it was game on. Similar to our first game against Greenwood we kept on knocking but couldn’t find a way past the Greenwood defence and goalkeeper. With time running out Greenwood broke away and scored another goal to make it final score Watergrasshill Utd 2 Greenwood 4.
Sometimes you meet a team and it’s just not meant to be.
