U14 Watergrasshill Utd (4) V (3) Mallow

Our U14's kicked off their season in the Leonard Gould Cup against Mallow of Division 2. Squad numbers for today's game were down to 11 and the lads took to the field full of confidence after a mixed pre season. The match started off with both teams trying to figure each other out and Mallow soon realised that the back four of Jake, Killian, Tom & Shane were more than capable of any attack Mallow mustered.

The lads grew in confidence and slowly took control of the match with a goal from Padraig to give us a one goal lead at half time. The second half was a different story with Mallow pushing on and very dangerous on the counter attack and early on levelled the scores. They then preceded to take the lead against the run of play. Christy rallied the troops, Padraig & Mark saw more of the ball and Owens through balls was causing concern for Mallow. Cillian had moved up front and Lee to the defence. We soon levelled with a goal from Owen and took the lead with Padraigs second goal, from outside the box.

Mallow to their credit pushed hard and equalised not long afterwards. Watergrasshill United 3 - Mallow 3. Niall pulled off some excellent one on one saves to keep us in the game and with extra time now looming and one minute to go Sean popped up to score a well deserved winner.
