Watergrasshill Utd U13 (3) vs. St Mary’s U13 A (2)

U13 Match Report 1st Round Con Elliott Cup

Watergrasshill Utd v St Mary's

WGH escaped with victory at home today against a determined and resilient Division 5 side St Mary's A. The home side started quite slowly and made life a bit hard for themselves by conceding two early goals and were then struggling for most of the first half.
We grabbed a desperately needed life line shortly before the interval created by the industrious Aidan Barton who made a powerful surging run from midfield and delivered a superb ball through the St Mary's defence. Ethan Nixon coming from the left wing picked up the running from there and he finished competently at the near post to score his third goal in the last two games. Down 1:2 at half time but still in the game the squad rallied and totally dominated the second half.

St Mary's A despite being down to 10 players ( due to injury ) for all of the second half , defended resolutely putting everyone behind the ball hoping to hold on for the win.
Watergrasshill kept at with Shane O Reilly driving on hard through the centre to supply the attackers continuously. The breakthrough came with 15 minutes to go when Shane scored a great goal direct from a free kick. With the game in the balance Watergrasshill kept attacking and the winner came in the final minute when Sean Desmond playing on the right wing hit a superb dipping shot across the goal mouth and James O leary just connected with to squeeze it in at the far post.
