Watergrasshill United U10 beat the elements and Carrigaline

Todays heavy showers failed to dampen the enthusiasm of our Under 10 team who were eager for a match after 2 cancellations in the last 2 weeks. Our Watergrasshill United U10s took on Carrigaline's first U10 team at the old Hibernian FC pitch in Shanbally on what was a wet and windy afternoon.

We played 4 periods of 15 minutes of 11 aside full pitch length football and every player played his part in an exciting and entertaining game.

Carrigaline had a great start and their passing play resulted in a goal within 5 minutes. Dylan F scored the equalizer after a powerfull clearance from Adam who reached Dylan R. Dylan Roche's perfect pass reached Dylan F who did not hesitate and put the equaliser in the back of the net in the second period of the match. Another well played Carrigaline attack put the home team ahead in the 3rd quarter. At this stage of the match watergrasshill was feeling the pressure and some solid defending, good goalkeeping and just plain luck kept us in the game. Our break came from a Dylan R. corner kick. His first attempt was cleared but Darragh passed the ball back to Dylan who swung it in front of the goal for Adam to head in. A fantastic header, a result of great team play. In the last quarter the weather got even worse but the lads never gave up. A few great saves from Joseph and a few near misses from Carrigaline kept us alive and it was Daniel Cronin in midfield who won us the game through a fantastic volley over the goalie. What a goal. Well done Daniel. The lads kept their calm during the last few minutes and defended their lead. A lucky win as Carrigaline was unlucky in front of the goal and a draw would have been a fair result.
