Watergrasshill United U10’s end the year on a high.

Our Watergrasshill United U10's ended the year on a high today against Riverstown.

It was great to see a big turnout again of players (14) and parents who enjoyed two great games. Originally scheduled as a home match, but due to the closure of our grounds, Riverstown was able to host us on their GACA Community playing fields. Special thanks to Martin from Riverstown to arranging this on short notice.

To give everyone maximum game time, we played two 7 aside matches in parallel. Each match had three 15 minute periods and teams were swapped after each period.

One team was formed by Dylan R, Joseph, Eoin, Eoghan K, Darragh, Ryan and Ronan (1-0 win, 2-2 draw and 3-2 win) and the other team consisted out of Adam, Ben, David, Brendan, Eoghan O'L, Sam, Daniel (2-1 loss, 5-2 win, 5-1 win)

So all in all two solid performances of the lads in what were the last games of the season. Well done lads. Thanks to Donal and Derek who looked after one of the teams today and to referee Frank. Special thanks to Martin from Riverstown for providing the pitch and the Riverstown U10 team for the great games.

At the end of the match, the lads were presented with Watergrasshill United club crested beanie hats (available in our club shop), that were kindly sponsored by our shirt sponsor EMC, and with a selection box from the U10 coaching team. A special thank you for all the effort and commitment the lads have given the team so far.

2013 year in review

2013 has been a great year for this bunch of lads whose numbers have now swelled to a squad of 18 and are in preparation for U11 competitive football next year with a few games in October / November in a 11 aside format.

This squad has played 25 games this year excluding FUTSAL and have seen only 2 teams get the better of them. They took part in their first competitive matches in the Tournament By The Sea in Kinsale and reached the final only to be beaten by Temple. Most made their Communion this year so all in all 2013 has been an active and maturing year for them.

In September the lads welcomed 4 new additions from the clubs recruitment drive. Our emphasis is one of creating a squad and all the lads are given fair playing time during this year matches. We are in the process of changing our rotation policy to fixed positions so please bear with us.

Both coaches, Frank & Rob, have completed Kick Start 2 by the FAI with the clubs backing and aim to use this to focus is on nurturing individual talent of each player into that of a team with an emphasis on positioning and thinking. The kids by nature will be a little bit competitive but the goal is to create a squad over time that will be ready for CSL next year.

We are very fortunate to have, not only a great bunch of lads but also a great bunch of parents who have supported us every step of the way. The continuous support at matches they give the lads with encouragement not only for their own child but all team players is very heart warming. The way they leave the kids play their own game is to be admired and we are convinced that’s what is helping the lads improve their own game.

The game can be one of different opinions but the most pleasing aspect for the coaches is seeing the lads not only grow as players but also as children. They are a pleasure to work with and of course we have our moments but who doesn’t.

Special thanks to our shirt sponsor EMC for providing us with a team match kit and matching beanie hats.

Teams Played – Fermoy (4), Greenwood (2), Midleton (3),  Corinthian Boys (2), Carrigaline (5), Temple (2), Kinsale (2), Mayfield, Douglas Hall, WGH Girls U12, Riverstown

Squad – Adam, Ben, Brendan, Daniel, Darragh, David, Dylan F, Dylan R, Eoghan K, Eoghan O L, Eoin, Jim, Joseph, Nikki, Ronan, Rory, Ryan, Sam

And finally we’d like to thank all parents / families who have committed and stuck with us during 2013, for those who assisted us during games and at training, and of course all Under 10 Academy Boys for their dedication and fantastic attitude week in week out….

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY and HEALTHY NEW YEAR…

See you all on the 11th of January

Frank and Rob
