U15’s Fight Back to Claim 2-2 Draw against Macroom

Our U15 squad travelled to 2nd placed Macroom earlier this morning for a league game. With Macroom pushing for the league title and having the best defensive record in the division, we knew we had a tough game on our hands.

Macroom started the game strongly and within five minutes had taken the lead when their striker put the ball in the net from an offside position which went unnoticed by the referee. We were under pressure for the remainder of the first half as Macroom pressed for a second. However we were unlucky not to snatch an equalizer just before half time as our shot went just over the crossbar.

The second half started similar to the first with Macroom on top early on. Their pressure paid off soon after as their winger grabbed a goal with a great strike from the edge of the box. 2-0 to Macroom.

With 15 minutes to go, we upped the ante and managed to get a foothold in the game. We started playing some decent football keeping the ball on the ground and we were rewarded as Seamus ran onto a through ball to slot it into the bottom corner. 2-1.

With 10 minutes to go we pushed for an equalizer and our pressure paid off as we were awarded a free kick  outside the box. Up stepped Lee to fire the ball into the bottom left corner to leave the game level.

Both teams pressed for a winner and we nearly completed the perfect comeback late on but the effort the lads put in took its toll and the game ended 2-2.

The performance from the lads in the second half against strong opposition was a huge positive in this game and this was a well deserved result for the team.

There will be no training next Thursday April 3rd due to midweek games taking place that night.

Thanks from Mark, Frank, Dan & Chris.

Squad: Kieran, Conor, Adam, Lee, Darren, Daniel, Greg, Andrew, Karol, James, Tom H, Seamus, Simon & Chris.
