U15’s Put Six Past Strand United

Our U15's travelled to Inniscartha earlier tonight for a league match against Strand Utd. Based on our second half performance against Macroom, we were confident of getting a decent result in this game.

We started the game brilliantly and played some fantastic football from the word go. We were rewarded immediately for our efforts when Andrew jumped highest from Lee's corner to plant a header in the bottom corner.

The brilliant passing and moving continued and just a few minutes later, Greg blasted a 20 yard screamer into the top corner to double our lead.

The lads could sense that there was more goals to come and kept on pressing and after several teasing passes behind the defense we got our third, with James latching onto a through-ball and rounding the keeper to calmly slot it into the  back of the net.

James doubled his tally on the stroke of half time with a snap shot on the edge of the box which flew past the Strand Utd keeper and gave us a well deserved 4-0 lead at half time.

Strand came out fighting in the second half and the game became a physical and mental battle from then on. Strand managed to pull one back early in the second half after a clearance rebounded off a Strand player and went into the net. We were unlucky to concede a second goal a few minutes later after Kieran pulled off a brilliant save and the Strand forward reacted first and poked it home.

Determined to re-establish our dominance, we pushed Strand back and started to play our passing game again and we were given a penalty after another incisive run drew a clumsy challenge from the Strand defense. Up stepped James to tuck it away and claim his hat-trick.

We continued to push on and had Strand on the backfoot for the remainder of the game and Chris sealed our victory with his tap-in from James' pass.

Final Score: Strand Utd 2 - 6 WGH Utd

This was a well-deserved result which has pulled us further up the table and our first half display was the best 40mins of football we have played this season. Our first half performance will give us great confidence as we showed that we can play some great football and tear teams apart.

Scorers on the night were Andrew, Greg, James (3) and Chris.

There will be no training this Thursday due to the number of matches this week. Next up is Everton at home on Sunday at 1.15pm.

Thanks from Mark, Frank, Dan & Chris.

Squad: Kieran, Conor, Lee, Adam, Darren, Karol, Andrew, Greg, Simon, James, Christy, Chris.
