Juniors moving up the table

Glanworth 0 - Watergrasshill 2

We continued our recent good run of form by picking up three valuable league points away to Glanworth this morning. The squad strength was tested due to injuries of number of key players but those who took the field certainly stepped up to the plate.

In opening 20 minutes we had a number of chances and after a few near misses from Paddy O Regan and Dave Dennehy, Ronan Brady latched on to an Aaron Ricken  'cross' and stuck it away. Ronan could have made it 2-0 soon after but after a fine move his shot came back of the post and fell luckily into the Glanworth keeper's hands.

Glanworth upped their game for the remainder of the half and John Barton in the Hill goal was called into action a number of times to keep us in front.

After the break, we continued to have plenty chances to make the game safe but when only a goal down, the home team retained hope & pushed forward putting plenty of pressure on our back four, but they kept composed with Ray Murphy putting his body on the line and John Barton having no intention of letting anything in today. At the other end, Eddie McCarthy had an effort pushed onto the bar before succumbing to injury and being replaced by Eric Duncan.

With the final kick of the game, Dave Dennehy drilled home a free kick (although some would say the keeper should have done better !) . With that the game was safe and victory ensured. That will be the last competitive game for 2014 but we hope to take up where we left off when we return.
