U11 keep their unbeaten run going in Div 2 top of table clash

Our U11s welcomed undefeated Div 2 league leaders Macroom to Skehanagh earlier this afternoon. With only 10 players on the match sheet, we knew this was going to be a tough one. Our defence lead by Adam, Daniel, Brendan and Ryan, didn't give away much during the first half and caught the Macroom forwards a few times offside. Rory, Cillian, and Eoghan in midfield and Dylan R upfront kept the pressure on the well organised Marcroom midfield and backs. 16 minutes into the game Eoghan found Cillian with a great pass from the left hand side and Cillian didn't hesitate and lashed the ball in the back of the net. 1-0. In the last minute of the first half regular time, our defence struggled to clear the ball fast enough and a well organised Macroom attack on the left hand side resulted in one of Macrooms midfielders finishing in the bottom right hand corner. Both teams went in at half time level Watergrasshill U11 (1) - Macroom U11 (1).

With the wind in the back and playing downhill(!), we started the second half with massive intent, and in truth, dominated for almost the whole period. We counted over a dozen great saves by the Macroom keeper, one even better than the other. Our corner kicks created havoc inside the Macroom box over and over again and some great passing play from Joseph, Adam, Cillian, Eoghan, Rory,Brendan created chance after chance. We defended high on the pitch and were at risk of being caught on the counter, but with Brendans pace, Josephs shots and Adams strength we were able to handle Macrooms pacey forwards. The lads kept pressing till the end and never gave up, but it was one of those days. Unlucky lads, great effort but compliments to a man of the match performance of the Macroom goalie. Final Score: Watergrasshill U11 (1) - Macroom U11 (1)
