U11Local Cup Macroom (1) v (2) Watergrasshill United

For the first time this year we had a full squad available. We travelled away to Macroom in the first round of the Local Cup, where one team would go through and one exit the cup. Having played Macroom in a top of the table match prior to Xmas we knew we were in for a tough game today on their pitch and it proved to be the case. In a mirror match of our league encounter with them, we had the most clear cut chances but for some excellent goalkeeping & missed opportunities, we took only a one goal lead into HT, courtesy of Dylan Roche goal 4 minutes before the break. Macroom caused us a lot of problems especially on the break. Our back four more than held their own but at times were forced into scrambled & last ditch tackles. Macroom deserved their equaliser for the problems they were causing us and for a while after that it was backs to the wall for us as we regrouped ourselves. We did and again created more chances but to no avail. Extra Time it was. 5 minutes each way and it was anyone’s for the taking. Both teams had chances but with a minute to go we scored with a close shot from Dylan. Relief all round for parents & players. Macroom had one last chance with a free outside the box but we scrambled it away & the Ref blew the final whistle.
