U11 Kevin Dillon Cup Quarter Final

U11asCorkBeg

Our U11a's faced another tough challenge earlier today against Corkbeg in the 1/4 final of the U11 Kevin Dillon Cup. The lads had to work hard to keep a well passing and moving Corkbeg at bay. Eoin, Garreth and Denis, helped by Sam, were in control at the back and mostly snuffed out the Corkbeg attacks when they managed to break through a very hardworking midfield of Seweryn, Ross and Jack. Timmy up front and Ben in goal complemented the starting 9. A well placed lob by Seweryn in the 13th minute took the goalie by surprise and bounced over the keeper and in the goal. 1-0 a great start. Immediately after Sam hit the post with a long distance shot. One unlucky clearance in the back was intercepted by the Corkbeg forwards and with the help of some great passing and team play the ball ended up in the back of the net. 1-1. Another great finish from Seweryn 5 minutes later made it 2-1. A corner from Seweryn went straight into the goal but unfortunately the ref disallowed it as the ball had gone out of play. When half time was approaching we took our eyes of the ball for one moment. A moment that Corkbeg used to score the equalizer. Half time Score: Watergrasshill United U11a (2) - Corkbeg U11 (2).

In the second half we changed some of the positions and moved Seweryn to left back, introduced Jake up front and Eimantas as left mid. Ben S took over from Eoin as right back and eoghan and david where introduced shortly after. We didn't give away much chances in the second half and when we did some superb keeping by Ben kept Corkbeg at bay. We re-introduced Jack, Ross and Tim and tried to enforce the equaliser. The last ten minutes were nerve jangling as we kept on pressing but Corkbeg's solid defence didn't give anything away. 5 minutes from time, a Corkbeg goal kick bounced over our defense and landed in the feet of one of the Corkbeg strikers who didn't make a mistake. 2-3. In the final five minutes, the lads tried and tried but unfortunately, Corkbeg held on and went home with the win. A great game of football between two teams who gave it their all in the quest for the Kevin Dillon cup. Final Score: Watergrasshill United U11a (2) - Corkbeg (3). Same score as our previous encounter in November of Last year.

Great performance lads, keep your head up high, ye fought for it, gave it your all and made us all proud.
