SFAI National Cup – Watergrasshill United (2) V (3) Midleton AET

Our U12’s bowed out of the National Cup today after a hard fought game against Midleton. In an evenly matched first half where we had the better goal scoring chances, both teams failed to find the net and the score at HT was Watergrasshill United 0 – Midleton 0.

The 2^nd half saw the battle continue. We emptied the bench and took the lead on the 11^th minute when Eoghan scored after a throw in from Adam. Midleton drew level on the 19^th minute when their winger outpaced our defence to lob Ronan in goal. We didn’t have to wait long to retain the lead when we were awarded a penalty after Rory was taken down in the box. Adam stood up and put the keeper the wrong way to score in the right hand corner. Midleton pushed on to try and equalise and to a man we stood strong. In the final minute Midleton were awarded a penalty and they duly scored to send the game into extra time.

Midleton took the lead for the first time in the game within 2 minutes of the re start and from then on we were chasing the game. We emptied the bench again but to no avail and Rory came the closest when the ball hit off the top of the crossbar with 3 minutes to go.
