U18 League Cup: Park Utd 1 – 2 WGH Utd (AET)
The first competitive game played by WGH Utd U18 this season kicked off in the League Cup away to Park Utd on Sat, 18th August. After being undefeated in pre-season with 2 wins away to Carrigtwohill, home to Riverstown and a draw at home to Rockmount, we were in a confident mood. The difference between friendlies and real matches was soon hammered home, much faster pace, Park seemed physically bigger as well. A penalty awarded against us in the 1st half was saved by keeper Cian Hogan but all the good work was undone when we conceded a soft goal, a free header.
Shane Cotter drew us level with a magnificent free kick also in the 1st half and Richard Morrison almost snatched the win with time ticking away. However, he made amends in extra time with a well taken goal to give WGH Utd our 1st Youths win and put us in the next round of the cup. Unfortunately, we lost Tadgh Herlihy to a kick in the head and possible concussion in the 2nd half.
