U18 Update after Week 2 Fixtures

WGH Utd U18s

A bad week with 2 defeats in a row, 1 at home in the league and the other away in the League Cup

U18 League Div 1 WGH Utd 0 Douglas Hall 2

Frustrating defeat at home to Douglas Hall in the league on Saturday, 25th Aug. Douglas Hall weren’t even in the league the week before but dropped down from the Premiership. Regardless, we were the better team but conceded 2 sloppy goals, 1 after only 4 minutes which left us chasing the game. In the 2nd half, Richard Morrison’s exquisite lob beat the keeper only for the fullback to clear off the line. As luck would have it, Douglas Hall went down the other end and got their 2nd, which had more than a hint of offside.

League Cup Rd 2 Springfield Ramblers 4 WGH Utd 0

Having secured a draw away against Springfield Ramblers A the previous Tues, we were back down there last Tuesday to face their Premier team in the League Cup, currently top of the Premier (after 1 match!). We didn’t deserve to win this game but 4-0 is a bit harsh, though Cian Hogan was by far the busier of the 2 keepers and pulled off a number of saves.

We conceded after 4 mins of the 1st half but got to halftime at 1-0, then conceded 2 goals in quick succession after 4 mins of the second half! The last goal was scored after 80 mins and 5 mins from time, Shane Cotter was unlucky to see the keeper save his penalty after Aidan Donoghue had been brought down in the box.

SUBS: A Donoghue, R Morrison, S Hogan, R Scuffins.
