U18s snatch draw against Midleton at Knockgriffin

U18 League Div 1 Midleton 1 WGH Utd 1

The team deservedly got a point away to a strong Midleton team in blazing sunshine on Saturday, 1st Sept. The team were a bit hesitant at the start, still getting used to the new formation. Midleton, top of the table before the match, put a lot of pressure on but didn’t really create any clear cut chances before opening the scoring with a powerful header from a corner. An equalizer nearly resulted in the 1st half from a corner of our own when Matt Quinn challenged the keeper and his backheel was hooked off the line by Midleton.

The Hill went for broke in the 2nd half and got a deserved equalizer when sub Sean Hogan was pulled down in the box. Dion McCormack smashed home the penalty for the point. That’s 2 away draws now that the lads have secured – all credit to the character and battling qualities shown by the whole squad. This has been a tough opening few weeks in a much higher league with more quality but the team are adapting really well
