Feb 29th – U15 Local Cup Watergrasshill Utd 4 Midleton 6 AET

This was an extrordinary game that 4 days later I am still wondering how we lost. After 60 minutes WGH Utd were leading 3 goals to nil against Div 2 side Midleton with goals from Dilan O Donovan (2) and PJ Dennehy and in total control of the game. In fairness 2 excellent Midleton goals within a minute brought them thundering back into the game but again we responded with Dilan completing his hat trick from the penalty spot. In a furthur dramatic twist Midleton scored 2 late goals, their equaliser with 30 seconds left and ultimately prevailed in extra time. The net result is that we are out of the cup and free to concentrate on the league where we are still bang in contention. 'They' say you learn more from defeat than victory but all I know is that in the cup this year football has been extremly cruel. All the lads put in a great effort and we were delighted to welcome Michael Goggin as he made a fine competitive debut for us. As already stated before these lads are a real dedicated bunch of strong players who all have a really bright future and they should be really proud of their display. The management team are challanged with trying to manage big numbers and facilitating players who are always brilliant to attend matches and training. Anyway lets keep the performances going, hope that lady luck doesn't forget us and we finish the season very strongly. Thx Noel and Pat.
