WGH U10’s Ringmahon Easter Tournament
A lottery, flick of a coin, role of the dice whatever way you call it, a penalty shootout is a hard way to leave a tournament but games have to be decided there and then. We took our U10 squad, 14 in total to Ringmahon Rangers Easter Tournament with some big clubs in opposition, Ringmahon x 2, Springfield, Wilton, Douglas Hall, Carrigaline and Mallow.
Our group consisted of Ringmahon, Springfield and Wilton. First up were Ringmahon first team, the local team. Thanks to a goal from Dylan we came away with a 1-0 victory. Two Nil - Nil draws against Springfield and Wilton resulted in us topping our group. We waited for the final game in the other group to see who we were up against in the semi final. First came the name Douglas, then Carrigaline to be finally told it was Mallow, who have won for the past three years. So close was that group, that Goal difference decided who was first, second & third.
So to the semi final - a tense affair for the lads. We were going for it, Mallow however were in total control for the first half without actually testing our goal. Half time still in the game, the lads upped the tempo and came more into the game and then came a moment, a shot from Dylan, off the crossbar and straight down. Game finished 0-0. Penalties it was.
The rest is history. Mallow went on to win the tournament.
To put in into perspective, 4 clean sheets with three different goalkeepers, the only team at any age level in the tournament to do this came away from a Tournament consisting of first teams from Ringmahon, Springfield, Wilton, Carrigaline, Douglas & Mallow (Some of these teams have up to 50+ U10’s) unbeaten.
Well done lads.
