U12 Watergrasshill United (2) V (1) Avondale

We hosted Avondale at home today in our 6th league game of the season. With Macroom setting the pace, it was important that we secured a victory today to keep the pressure on. We started off with the elements in our favour and controlled the game from the off but with no cutting edge. We took the lead with a shot from Eoghan in the 12th minute and continued the half in control with a few breaks from Avondale. We are by no means playing well at the moment and way of the pace of where we want and need to be. An Achilles heel for us is when we concede goals and again today we conceded just before HT with an excellent individual goal from Avondale’s center forward. The 2nd half now became a test of character and we regained the lead in the 42nd minute with a Brendan shot from outside the area. We created a few more goals chances but some fine saves from the goalkeeper prevented us from increasing our lead. Avondale through 3 up front chasing the game and from nervy defending we kept them out. It’s a great habit to win without playing well.
