U14 Division 5: Watergrasshill Utd A 5 – 4 Corinthian Boys B

A nine goal thriller saw Watergrasshill take all 3points in what was an end to end game where both teams came with their shooting boots on.

Corinthians started the better and were rewarded for their early dominance with a goal on the the 15th minute. Watergrasshill responded instantly with some lovely play down the right wing with Daniel Cronin combining with Colm O’ Regan - Colm played the ball into the box to the oncoming runner Ben Flannagan, who slotted the ball past the keeper to level the game on the 18th minute. The first half continued in this fashion with both teams trying hard to get the upper hand, however it was Watergrasshill who finished the half 4 - 2 up with Daniel Cronin scoring twice from the edge of the box and Shane Russ scoring from a free kick just inside Corinthians half for what was goal of the game.

Start of the second half saw Corinthians pressing hard trying to get something out of this game but with some great saves from Watergrasshill keeper Daniel Pooley and some fantastic defensive work from left back Eoin O Mahony, Watergrasshill preserved their lead and on the 55th minute, a contested hop ball saw Shane Russ play a through ball in for Ben Flannagan to score his second of the day. At this stage Watergrasshill were 5-2 up and in control, however Corinthians to their credit kept pressing and scored two more goals on the 60th and 67th minute.

Watergrasshill saw out the last few minutes of the game to collect all three points in what was a very enjoyable,competitive game.
