Jan 30th – U13 Local Cup – Crosshaven (3) v (5) WGH

On Sunday January 29th we (Under 13's) travelled to Crosshaven for the first round of the local Cup. While we got off to a very shaky start we soon started to settle and take control of the game. Within 15 minutes we were off the mark with a goal from the left winger Dan Dennehy. From here on we really dominated the game. Within 5 minutes we scored our 2nd goal from our right winger Andrew Desmond. It finished half time Crosshaven 0 - 2 WGH. At the start of the second half due to a lack of focus/concentration Crosshaven scored from the tip off, WGH gave away a very soft goal and allowed Crosshaven back into the game. However WGH now started to realise they had a game on their hands. Within 10 minutes of the second half Dan Dennehy put a ball into the box for James Gowen to score his first goal for WGH UTD. Crosshaven 1- 3 WGH. We were now taking full control of the game and pushing hard to close of this game. On the 45th minute from a corner kick Aaron Spriggs volleyed on the ball to score a lovely goal. Crosshaven 1 - 4 WGH. Yet again from the kick off we conceded another soft goal. Crosshaven 2 - 4 WGH. In the 50th minute Luke Mc Carthy our centre back took the ball from the back line and made a run to set James Gowen up for his second of the day. Crosshaven 2 - 5 WGH. Crosshaven scored another goal before the end of the game to make the final score Crosshaven 3- 5 WGH. Apart from two very soft goals we conceded, WGH dominated this game from start to finish. Well done to all players from 1-14 but our man of the match goes to Luke Mc Carthy for his work rate and his fantastic runs from the back line to assist the midfield and setup the forwards. Thanks to all the parents who travelled for their support. Team: Kieran Mc Grath, Conor Crowley, Luke Mc Carthy, Aaron Spriggs, Darren Healy, Andrew Desmond, Colin Cronin, Adam OSullivan, Dan Dennehy, James Gowen, Chris Healy, Padraig O Leary, Jake O Brien and Sean Desmond. Well done to all on a great result.
