Sun May 13th – Under 8 – Watergrasshill (7) – Glounthaune (4)

Our Under 8's played Glounthaune on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Skehanagh Park. Sunny but with a gale force wind!

We started our final league home match with the wind in the back. Eoghan quickly put us up front with a clean goal from his left boot. Dylan followed with number 2 as we kept up our pressing play. Some great passing between Joseph and Sam allowed us to extend our lead at the end of the first period  through another goal by Eoghan. We started the second period against the wind with some excellent combination play between Darragh and Dylan, leading to the 4rth goal of the match and a hattrick for Eoghan. As we have seen before in the previous matches, when leading,  our lads get a bit "over confident" and keep forgetting their basic tasks. Aided by the wind , some dodgy backpasses in front of our own goal and an unfortunate own goal, Glounthaune quickly came back into the match to 4-3. Just before the end of the second period, Dylan had a shot on goal which the goalkeeper dropped. Great follow-up work allowed him to tap the ball in the back of the net. 5-3.

The last period of the match started off with a harsh given penalty for a hand-ball from one of the Glounthane defenders. Brendan stayed cool and put the 6-3 in the back of the net.   Ryan (released from his goal keeping duties by Eoin) and Joseph kept the pressure on Glounthaune enabling Eoghan to score his 4th from an excellent clearance from Daniel. A last minute goal from Glounthaune set the final score to 7-4.

Another great match , a great team effort and a well deserved win where our Under 8's kept their unbeaten home record.

Congratulations Lads. Well done.
