Watergrasshill United U13’s Division 2 match report Saturday September 21st 2013

U13

Leeds Utd v Watergrasshill Utd

WGH continued their impressive start to the new  league campaign with a hard fought and well deserved win over a competitive Leeds side.

WGH started well and created most of the chances in the opening part of the game. Our efforts were rewarded after 15 minutes with a fine goal taken by James O Leary with a low powerful shot to the right corner leaving the Leeds goalie stranded. The home side  rallied immediately and responded within 10 minutes with an equaliser, a volley from a rebound out of our defence. In fairness our lads continued to create the best chances and just before half time WGH went back in front with a fine finish by Sean Desmond from the right wing on the back of excellent build up play involving Jack O Grady ( Centre Mid ) Seamus Ahern and Dean Browne ( Centre Forward ) all whom were playing impressively. Shane O Reilly took his chances to go on some fast penetrating runs from midfield and created a few goal chances himself in this way.

WGH continued to control the game in the second half , with the back four of Cathal Feehan, Ceadan Hogan, Gary Doyle and Ethan Nixon  having to work hard as a unit to work the offside trap and soak up the increasing pressure from Leeds. WGH's better composure near goal paid off after 10 minutes of the second half when Sean Desmond pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area from a WGH corner .

The two goal cushion allowed our lads more time on the ball but Leeds kept pushing hard to get back in the game and they took their chance from a fast ball over our defence leaving two on one against our goalie Colm Curtin, who had a very solid game all through. Dylan Long and Colin O Toole came on upfront in the second half to give us a much needed energy boost and both did well together.

RESULT : a 3:2 win for WGH , a great overall team performance, leaving us with full points from our first two games of the season.

Squad : Colm Curtin, Colin O Toole, Dylan Long, Ceadan Hogan, Gary Doyle, Seamus Ahern, Ethan Nixon, Sean Desmond, Shane O Reilly, Jack O Grady, James O Leary, Dean Browne, Cathal Feehan.

MAN OF THE MATCH  for his consistently creative display operating in front of the midfield four goes to SEAMUS AHERN
