Kevin Dillon Cup – Lakewood U11A (1) Vs Watergrasshill United U11 (7)

The Kevin Dillon Cup brought the first clash of matches for the U11’s this year, with Rob heading for Mallow (3-2 win) and myself to Ovens. With a squad of 12, we are nearly back to full strength after injuries, rotation played a key part today. Lakewood were proving to be a hard team to score against and with the majority of play and all the chances, we failed to find the net in the first 15 minutes. Introduction of the lads had an immediate impact at both ends with us taking the lead on the 20th minutes through Dylan R and Lakewood pulling a goal back on the 27th with a ball over the top. The score at HT 1 – 1.
After the HT talk and the lads realising that we could take nothing for granted with this being a knockout match, we started to convert the chances that we had missed in the first half. Rory’s goal in the 35th minute helped settle the lads down and further goals in the 40th, 42nd, 45th & 48th minute from Cillian (2), Adam & Dylan F  finally put the game beyond doubt. Cillian completed his hatrick on the 53 minute to round off the result at 7 – 1. A bit unfair to Lakewood as they proved to be very hard team to breakdown with their style of play and something we must learn from going forward.

It was great to have 12 players today and everyone played their part.
